„Smile and the world smiles with you“ – The Body Shop Drops of Youth Eye Concentrate

I truly believe in starting your days on a positive note.
I smile a lot throughout the day.
I smile at people passing me by in the streets, I smile at my co-workers and I strongly believe in handling upcoming problems calm and friendly.

But to be honest, the world doesn’t smile with me. At least not always. Maybe every second time?
And it can be rather frustrating to be the one that gets greeted by grumpy faces all day long.

So I figured I needed someone to smile at me right when my day starts.
Problem is, when I get up, the husband is still asleep.
Problem is, when I wake my daughter, she isn’t in a smiling mood.

What do you do? Turn to skincare once again!
The Body Shop Drops of Youth Eye Concentrate really smiles at you.
Don’t believe me? See the picture below!

What The Body Shop claims:
Firming concentrate for smoother looking eye contour. The appearance of fine lines is visibly reduced, eye bags appear diminished, eyes look more awake.

Facts:
One pot contains 10 ml of product and sells for 19 € here. I applied it once daily (in the morning) and it lasted me around three months.
The product has no obvious smell, absorbs quickly into the skin and feels cooling when applied.

Whether it is the product itself or the metal applicator that is responsible for the cooling feeling, I don’t know, but the way the product comes out when you press the pump is what gets me excited.
See the smiling face?

Smiling face and a working metal applicator

It is actually the first metal applicator I have found so far that really works well in distributing the product instead of creating a big mess. You have to be careful though not to press the pump too hard, otherwise a big blob of product will come out.

After application, my skin feels firm, smooth and I can do my makeup immediately. It didn’t feel overly hydrating, but it was in no way drying either.
Please note that this is meant to be a concentrate, so you are supposed to use it under an actual eye cream. (I rarely did that.)

I chose to leave a blank line after approximately one third of the ingredient list, to help you see what the „main ingredients“ were and which are on the bottom of the list. Like the Leontopodium Alpinum Meristem Cell Culture, which is key ingredient for the Drops of Youth line *sigh*.

Favorable ingredients:
Sorbitol: Moisturizing
Glycerin: Moisturizing
Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil: Locks in moisture

Hydrolyzed Manihot Esculenta Tuber Extract: Smoothing, firming, locks in moisture
Sodium Hyaluronate: Moisturizing
Urea: Moisturizing
Adenosine: Part of cell communication, reduces fine lines (?)
Trehalose: Moisturizing, fights free radicals

Niacinamide: Vitamin B3, fights free radicals, combats hyper pigmentation
Fraxinus Excelsior Bark Extract: Reduces capillary permeability, thus reducing eye bags
Leontopodium Alpinum Meristem Cell Culture: Antioxidant
Gycolic Acid: AHA
Tocopherol: Vitamin E, antioxydant

Other ingredients:
Radish Root Ferment Filtrate: Used instead of parabens as antimicrobial agent.

Unfavorable Ingredients:
Alcohol denat.: Drying
– Preservatives

One word on the alcohol.
I know that for many people alcohol is the devil in skincare. I don’t completely agree.
Alcohol is drying on the skin and harms the natural lipid barrier our skin has. This is why products containing alcohol absorb easily and feel cooling.
But I have never found data convincing me that it actually destroys skin cells (no, Paulas Choice is no scientific source).
Make up your own mind and decide whether you want to use it or not.

Does it live up to its claims?
Yes.
While it helps that the claims are sensible, it really does what it says. My eye area feels firm, smooth and the (little) puffiness I get when I lack sleep is reduced.

Will I rebuy?
I have already.
To be honest, I am not happy with the alcohol, being there as second ingredient on the list. I much rather had a product without the alcohol, but so far I have found nothing similar to replace it. I will keep on using it until, but apply eye cream on top.

Who do I recommend it to?

If puffiness is a concern, go get it.
If you want to smooth out the no-longer smooth eye area before applying makeup, go get it.
If you want anything to smile at you in the mornings and your family just isn’t available, go get it.
But if alcohol is the devil or your eye area is very, very dry, I suggest you look somewhere else.
Do you use specific eye serums or concentrates? (Disclaimer: I usually don’t.)
And do you believe the world will smile back?
