But short story even shorter, each month I choose a seasonal ad and try to recreate the models look with colors I already own.

This time the Chanel Rouge Noir Absolument 2015 ad had tickled my fancy. Such a pretty and glamorous makeup!
The purple shadow, the glossy lip, the dark nails and the perfect matte skin. I can totally see me wearing this to a New Years Eve party, sipping champagne while ringing in next year in style!
But without a makeup artists help, would I even come close?

Maybe it is the lighting, maybe it is Photoshop, most likely it is skills I don’t have: Getting that gradient glossy purple was almost impossible. I probably retried three times until I finally settled for what you see in the pictures above.
As a base, I used MACs Fluidline in „Macroviolet“, a deep violet that really made the eyeshadow on top stick. Just remember to work quickly, as this one sets quite fast and is impossible to blend afterwards. I learned that the hard way.
To start the gradient effect, I put a very dark purple and a lighter, pink shade of the Makeup Revolution London Redemption Palette Iconic 3 on top (marked by the brushes in the picture above).

For more shine, I switched to glitter pigments from MAC, the darker one to the outer corner, the lighter one on the center of my lid. Both are from a the „Spring Color Forecast“ LE 2010 and called Stacked 1.
On the inner corner and up to the inner third of my lid I put another MAC pigment, „Universal Mix“ (LE „All Ages, all races, all sexes“ 2010), and blended the edges with MAC eyeshadow in „Mythical“ (Currently repromoted in the „MAC Me over“ Collection).
I think a cream eyeshadow would have worked better than the Fluidline, but I don’t own one in that color.

To achieve the matte base, I applied MAC Studio Waterweight in NC15 all over my face, really working it in with the brush for maximum achievable coverage, and set it with Isadora Velvet Touch Compact Powder in „Soft Mist“ (Review here). For extra coverage, I used Maybellines „Eraser“ in „Light“ (Review here).
No blush, no contour.

Using a lip brush (the one in the picture is a retractable one by Zoeva), I applied P2 Pure Color lipstick in „Corso Como“ as a base and finished it off with MAC „Hot/Cold“ lipglass from the Wash&Dry LE 2015 (Review here).
Despite my lips being significantly thinner than the models, I refrained from using lip injections and just slightly overdrew my contour…
I guess it is safe to say that the part I came closest are my nails (Essie „Sole Mate“). That glossy gradient look is way harder to achieve than I thought, and looking at the pictures above, I probably wouldn’t want to wear my creation out for New Years Eve.
But as New Years Eve will include little champagne and glamour, but fondue and staying in, it probably would have been a little too much anyway.
