Summer lovin´, happened so fast…

Whenever temperatures are up and a beach holiday is in the cards, this line from Grease is my constant companion.

Not that I have had many summer flings lately, my beach days are filled with sand toys and my idea of a wild night is going to bed after ten pm.

But the lack of fiery-eyed gigolos in my recent past (Mr. Loca is handsome, but not fiery-eyed) doesn’t mean that I can´t enjoy a little summer affair.

I just shift my attention to skincare products.

The cleanser I am flirting with in 2018? Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser.

What Indie Lee claims

Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser’s delicate berry blend delights the senses as the gel formula lightly foams to gently wash away makeup and impurities. In addition to helping achieve more luminous skin, strawberry seed oil, hydrolized wheat proteins, and tomato extracts help to strengthen, firm, and protect, leaving the skin hydrated and silky. Due to the unique combination of plant extracts, this antioxidant-rich formula doubles as an exfoliating mask to help smooth uneven texture and minimize the appearance of enlarged pores when left for five minutes before rinsing.

Indie Lee skincare is Leaping Bunny Certified, cruelty-free and printed on FSC certified paper with soy based ink. Brightening Cleanser is vegan friendly and free of parabens, sulfates, DEAs, TEAs, petrolatum, formaldehyde, lead, phthalates, toluene, talc, and GMO ingredients.

Doesn’t look like much, but oh…

Prize and size

One bottle (glass with a pump) contains 125 ml and retails for 32 $ on Sephora here. One pump is enough for a thorough massage of your face and neck, you´d need half a pump more if you take it to the tits.

Texture and smell

The gel smells fruity and sweet, a little like Maoam, which I absolutely don´t mind. At all. In case you didn´t know, Maoam are the best chewy sweets ever.

Application and effects

It glides on and slightly lathers up when you start massaging it with water, melting away dirt and sweat. When left on as a mask for the recommended five minutes it got sticky, but again was easily removed with water. For review purposes I even used it as first cleanse, and while it didn’t sting my eyes, it wasn’t really great at removing makeup either.

My skin felt clean and smooth, and while I didn´t notice any brightening effects I do believe that these are too subtle to spot just by looking into the mirror.

Favorable ingredients
  • Decyl Glucoside: Gentle surfactant
  • Disodium Coco-Glucoside Citrate: Gentle surfactant
  • Coco Glucoside: Gentle anionic surfactant
  • Glyceryl Oleate: Emollient
  • Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein: Humectant
  • Fragaria Chiloensis (Strawberry) Seed Oil: Rich in vitamins C, E, B, A and Omega 3
  • Lycopene (Tomato): Rich in antioxidants, mildly exfoliating
  • Propanediol: Increases penetration of acids, humectant

Other ingredients
  • Xanthan Gum: Improves viscosity
  • Ethylhexylglycerin: Preservative
  • Potassium Sorbate: Preservative

Gentle surfactants, a few humectants and vitamins, a nice cleansing formula.

Does it live up to its claims?

Most of them.

It is a gentle, hydrating cleanser and contains a bunch of antioxidants. I am just not sure if I notice a huge exfoliating effect, not even when used as a mask.

Would I repurchase?

Not because I think it is superior to my other cleansers, but because it is such a lovely summer product.

Who do I recommend it to?

When I initially planned this blog post in my head, I was going to say: “Normal to oily skins, probably not for dry skins though” as I felt when left on my skin as a mask it was a little drying. The lovely Shireen though, who blogs at Reflection of Sanity, has dry skin and  no issues with the cleanser.

So I am going to reformulate and say: “Everybody that wants a refreshing and fruity cleanse for summer.”
