Expectation versus reality – The Body Shop Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask

Have you ever imagined what jumping out of the plane window right into the big fluffy clouds would feel like?

The Body Shop Bouncy Sleeping Mask

I don´t want to talk reality here.
We all know it would be wet, cold and uncomfortable, mainly because you´d start falling at maximum speed toward the ground immediately.
Should have grabbed that parachute, girl!

I want to talk expectations!
Sinking into comforting, pillow like shapes, bouncing around laughing while the sun warms you from above.

Somehow that picture came to my mind when I read about The Body Shop Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask.
Now how do expectations compare to reality in this case? Let´s see.

What The Body Shop claims:

Youth-enhancing formula for bouncier looking skin. Unique bouncy, memory shape texture. With Edelweiss stem cells.

The product is housed in a glass jar with plastic lid and contains 90 ml of product. I used it for six months about once a week, sometimes twice, and still have a tiny bit left.

When purchased, it comes with a plastic spatula to get out the product and will set you back 26€ in stores or at their homepage online here.
You don’t need to use the spatula, but I´d recommend it for hygienic reasons.

Okay, you´d need a little more to cover your face and neck.

Texture wise the mask really is unlike any other I have tried before. It feels like jelly on your hand, quickly melting on the warm skin. In fact, applying it to your face quickly is recommended, as once it starts melting, it can be quite difficult to control!
The Body Shops website provides you with a face massage tutorial to apply the mask, and while it feels lovely to take the time to do that, I usually massage with my cleanser and just slather this one on.

Despite being a sleeping mask, it does take some time to sink in, so if you want to save your pillows, there are two options:
Either only apply a thin layer or, like I do, complete your night time skin care routine before you sit down to read/ binge watch Netflix.
A thick layer will take at least 15 minutes to sink in completely!

Favorable ingredients:
– Glycerin: Moisturizing
– Sunflower Seed Oil: Rich in Vitamin E and linoleum acid, anti-inflammatory
– Tocopheryl Acetate: Vitamin E, antioxidant
– Babassu Seed Oil: Rich in essential fatty acids, moisturizing

– Sodium Hyaluronate: Moisturizing
– Adenosine: Part of cell communication, reduces fine lines (?)
– Caffeine: Tightening, firming

– Leontopodium Alpinum Meristem Cell Culture: Antioxidant

Unfavorable Ingredients:
– Perfume (natural origin)
– Preservatives (including Benzyl alcohol, which is a widely used preservative in natural skincare)

Does it live up to its claims?
Any skin well moisturized will look bouncier and plumper, and it contains a fair share of moisturizers. The texture is unique and bouncy for sure, and the product will return to its original shape after you scooped something out.
And it contains Edelweiss Stem Cells. Very low down on the ingredient lists, and I am still not sure about the benefits it would bring, but, just as claimed, it is there.

Will I rebuy?
It is lovely and a good amount of product for your money. I just need to try other moisturizing masks to see how they compare.
Expectations are fulfilled in this case.

Who do I recommend it to?
If you want a budget friendly mask, jam-packed with moisture to give your skin a pick me up, that one is for you.
If you want something you slap on your face and forget about it, this one is a great choice.

Only if you tend to do your evening skincare the minute before you go to bed, you should maybe think twice.

Have you tried that mask before?
And have you ever dreamed of bouncing around clouds while seated on a plane?
