Sephora Cream Lip Stain in 01 Always Red

As you may have read in this post, I recently went to Sephora, dedicated to find the matte red lip stain that, rumors had it, survived even a five-course dinner.

Well, with some minor difficulties I succeeded in buying Sephoras Cream Lip Stain in 01 Always Red.
And with the holidays quickly approaching, I managed to find reasonable amounts of food to devour.
All for research purpose of course.

For reference, I had hot chocolate, baumkuchen, duck breast, red cabbage and roast potatoes, the former in the afternoon, the latter for dinner.

Facts first:
The Lip Stain comes in nine different shades, ranging from nudes to berrys. It contains 0,169 oz (5 ml for my european readers) and sells for 13 $ here or 10,95 € here.
Sephora describes it as a high coverage, lightweight stain that feels soft and comfortable on the lips due to avocado oil.

This is how the applicator and packaging look like. Anyone else reminded of a famous three-letter company?

There is a faint plastic smell when applied, but that doesn’t linger once you put it on.
On my lips it had a tendency to cling to dark patches, so make sure you moisturize well before wearing it.
The product itself is not sticky, it is one of those you forget you are wearing.

On to pictures:
One layer and some lip liner to even out the edges. You have to work quickly with this, because it stains really fast, so if you make a mistake it will be hard to correct.
As demonstrated on the right side of my mouth where it smudged a little bit.

Sephora Cream Lip Stain, one layer.

One thin layer is really all you need, and all you should do. Following the old “More is more”-rule I whacked on a heavy layer the first time I wore it, and it literally went everywhere.
It stained my lips, my chin, even the tip of my nose… Not pretty.
I´ll spare you a picture of that.

Now on to the after picture.
After six hours of wearing and eating the above mentioned food, it still looked okay from across the table (at least this is what Mr. Loca said, who, to be honest, has absolutely no eye for makeup).
This is the close up:

Yes, it has worn off, but after that amount of (greasy) food, only a lip tattoo would still be in place. Despite using a lipliner, it moved a little into my fine lines, only noticeable close up.
I am impressed.

Does it live up to its claims?
Yes, with one little exception.
It is opaque, it is long-lasting and leaves a pretty stain.
The one thing I am not completely sure about is the nourishing aspect. It felt a little drying, but way less than most long-lasting/matte lip products I have tried so far who tend to soak up every moisture and leave me with lips like sahara desert.

Will I rebuy?
Yes. And I will go check out the other shades as soon as I can get my hands on them.

Who would I recommend it to?
Anyone looking for a long-lasting red lip. For that price it is hard to go wrong with.

Are you anything like me, constantly sipping tea or water throughout the day, making red/bold lips a struggle to maintain?
And have you tried these? Any other color recommendations?
I´d love to hear from you in the comments.
