I don´t get many zits these days. Which is not meant to be a complaint, far from it! At the age of 41 I feel I had my fair share of acne already. It is however an explanation for why the review of pixi Zero Zit has taken me so long to write.

 

 

I want to use it several times, compare it to other treatments I own, and all of that is hindered if there is no relevant breakout in sight. But thanks to Covid-19, working crazy hours and a diet consisting of pizza and chocolate the last few weeks gave me plenty of opportunity!

So let´s see if the pixi Zero Zit is worth your money!

Prize and size

One tube contains 10 ml and retails for 24 $ on the website here. The packaging has a slanted plastic tip with small openings where the product is squeezed out, I still wouldn´t recommend applying it directly to the zit though, to not risk contaminating the product.

 

 

Texture and smell

A milky gel texture that feels a little sticky and slightly cooling on the skin. It dries down very shiny.

 

 

How to use pixi Zero Zit

You apply a dab of the product onto active breakouts and then you wait. Due to the shiny finish I prefer to use it overnight, but it is less noticeable than other spot treatments, so you could of course use it during the day as well.

While I find it effective in reducing the swelling and calming down the redness (it shrinks these big cystic spots visibly overnight), it is too drying on me to use repeatedly without making the skin flakey.

A pretty basic ingredient list with three exceptions: Aloe Vera Leaf Extract, said to be soothing and calming, but probably not the important ingredients here. These would be Dimethyl Sulfone and Sea Salt.

You might have heard about Sulfur for acne already, as it is antibacterial, keratolytic (which means it increases exfoliation) and reduces sebum production, all of which make it very effective on active breakouts. It has a tendency to dry out the skin though, and has a high pH, which could lead to problems with the skins barrier function, so best used as a spot treatment rather than all over.

Sea Salt (or regular salt) is drying as well and reduces oil as breeding ground for bacteria.

 

Does it live up to its claims?

Most of them.

It is lightweight, it reduces the swelling and redness, but I am not sure about preventing further breakouts and probably wouldn´t use it for that.

 

How does pixi Zero Zit compare to…

Indie Lee Blemish Lotion

The most obvious difference is that it is clear, so much less noticeable when worn throughout the day, and that it works with Sulfur and Sea Salt rather than clay and Salicylic Acid.

The Zero Zit is a little more effective on me, but also more drying, so it all comes down what you put your focus on: Fast results or gentler treatment.

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Serum

I know some people use the The Ordinary serum as spot treatment, so I wanted to include it here. The main difference I can see is that for me the The Ordinary product is a serum and one that I use all over my face for prevention, not on individual spots. It does work great on individual spots though, and I like to use the pixi Zero Zit first on more stubborn breakouts and the 2% Salicylic Acid on the leftovers the following night.

Would I repurchase?

Yes.

I don´t get many of these cystic spots anymore (yay!), but if I do, I like having several treatment options at hand to get rid of them as soon as possible.

If you already use Salicylic Acid in your regular routine andwant something else to zap zits that appear quickly, this one is for you.
