pixi Nourishing Cleansing Balm – One for the colder months

When I sat down to plan my blogposts for October, I was tired. Not just “I didn’t sleep well last night”-tired. I was “Two kids down with a cold and I get 3 hours of sleep every night for a week”-tired.

And whenever I am tired, I take comfort in routine. You know, just doing the things you have done so frequently that your body can do them while your mind is still asleep. Without messing up. So when I stared at my skincare drawer (or was sleeping with open eyes, who knows), I decided that it was time to review the pixi Skintreats stuff that I had been using for the past months.

One product after the other.

In the order that I would apply them.

Routine, you see? So prepare for a month of pixi products (all of which are PR samples), because conveniently I had 5 of them. Just the amount of Mondays I needed to plan posts for.

And we are going to start with the pixi Nourishing Cleansing Balm (PR-Sample).

Because it is a first cleanse for me.

Which is what I use first.

I really need to sleep.

What pixi Skintreats claims:

Rich and luxuriously textured, this balm-to-oil cleanser melts away makeup & impurities for clear, glowing skin. It deep cleanses as it nourishes with added sweet almond oil, shea butter, and vitamin E. Leaves complexion feeling plumped & nourished.

Facts:

Prize and size

One pot with a screw off lid contains 90 ml and retails for 18 GBP on the pixi website here. You only need a pea sized amount, so the balm will last you 3 months+ of daily use, I assume. I have used it for around 5 weeks now and have more than 2/3 still left.

Texture and smell

To be honest, the scent is a little strong for my liking. Some people claim it smells like roses, which I can detect, but the leading note for me is the Sweet Almond Oil, a sweet scent that I usually like, but that is really strong in this balm.

The balm itself is very rich and creamy. It does not turn into an oil when applied to my skin and has great slip for a facial massage.

Application and effects

I used it as a first cleanse by massaging a small amount onto my dry face and then taking it off with a warm, damp microfibre cloth. I don’t think this is a cleanser you could just rinse off, as it is very rich, but it leaves the skin feeling nourished and soft. It isn´t the best in removing waterproof mascara, but will remove my daily amount of makeup without problems.

Favorable ingredients:

  • Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil: Rich in Vitamin E, moisturizing
  • Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter: Rich in fatty acids
  • Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride: Moisturizing
  • Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter: Moisturizing

Unfavorable Ingredients:

  • Fragrance: Last on the ingredient list

Does it live up to its claims?

Yes.

With the small exception that I don’t really feel it turns into an oil, but I am willing to overlook that. It is nourishing, cleansing and rich in texture.

Would I repurchase?

Not at the moment.

It is too rich for my combination oily skin, and I still prefer my Clinique Take the Day off balm (Review) when it comes to balm cleansers, but should my skin shift to the drier side (everything can happen once you turn 40!) this one would be on my list.

Who do I recommend it to?

People with dry skins will love that balm, as it cleanses without stripping.

People that love scented products, especially when it is a rose/ almond scent.

People that know they will expose their skin to cold temperatures when skiing and want a treat for afterwards.

How is sleep going on your side of the screen?
