I am used to wearing weird things on my face. Fake scars, white contacts, pointy ears – I have worn it. And yes, there are pictures galore to prove it, but that is not todays topic. You might understand now that running around with green under eye patches isn´t very high up on my weird stuff list, so I was kind of surprised by the looks the postman gave me when I answered the door wearing pixi DetoxifEYE.
He better get used to it though, because I admit I enjoy these gel eye pads!
Two weeks ago for example, I had spent the whole day and the better part of the night pretending to be a lady in a medieval fantasy world (which explains why on earth I would wear all of the above mentioned glued to my features anyway – I do LARP). I laughed, I cried, I even sipped some red wine, and the next morning my son decided that 5:30 am was the perfect time to get up for breakfast.
A quick glance into the mirror revealed that I had transformed from lovely lady to haggard hag over night, so something had to be done.
Preferably something that didn´t require much effort from my side and could be done while entertaining a hungry three-year-old. Ah, how pampering changes when you have kids!
So I slapped on a pair of the pixi DetoxifEYE patches and buttered some toast.

Prize and size
One pot contains 30 pairs or 60 individual eye patches (should you plan on using them single eyed only) and retails for 25,99 € on the website here. It comes with a small spatula that is indeed very handy, as the patches are both soaked in product and made from hydrocolloid gel, which makes them hard to grab and separate.
Gentle handling is advised, as you could tear them apart, but even if that happens, it doesn´t really make a difference in how they apply to the face.
Texture and smell
The hydrocolloid gel structure makes them feel wet and slightly cooling, an effect you can enhance by putting them into your fridge. They don´t have a scent and stick to the skin enough to allow running around without them sliding all over your face.
How to use pixi DetoxifEYE Eye Patches
I can´t be the only one that struggles with applying eye patches – I can never remember which end goes to which part of the eye. Good thing the packaging offers you a little diagram with placement. Should you however be one of those people that toss the paper box at first chance, here is a written reminder: the thin side goes to the inner corner.
Apply them right after cleansing and toning, when you would usually apply serum and leave them on for around 15 minutes. I have worn them longer, way longer in fact (time flies when you prepare breakfast it seems) and they never got uncomfortably dry. Even after an hour (don´t ask) there is still some liquid left underneath that you can pat into your under eye area.

Okay, first the most obvious: The shimmer. It does not transfer to your skin and is most likely not the gold, but tin oxide coated mica. Which looks pretty, but doesn´t offer any benefits other than that.
In terms of beneficial skin care ingredients, you will find Caffeine to help with puffy eye and dark circles, a bunch of humectants to combat fine lines and several plan extracts used for their antioxidant properties. To soothe the skin you will find Allantoin Aloe and Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate.
Do the pixi DetoxifEYE Eye Patches live up to their claims?
Yes.
They help to reduce swelling while simultaneously hydrating the under eye area which not only helps with fine lines, but also reduces the appearance of dark circles.
How do the pixi DetoxifEYE Eye Patches compare to…
Reviderm Collagen Eye Pads
The Reviderm eye pads were my first step into the world of the under eye mask, and I admit the results were impressive back then. Just like pixi DetoxifEYE they firm and plump the area underneath your eyes, helping you look more awake. They are made from paper though, not from hydrogel, so they feel less cooling. The depuffing effect is weaker, they focus more on collagen application for long term effects and they are, probably the biggest difference, way more expensive.
Five pair of pads cost 34 €, which is more than you pay for 30 pair of pixi DetoxifEYE.

The Inkey List Caffeine Serum
Okay, this is not an under eye mask. But reading through the ingredient list it reminded me of the pixi DetoxifEYE Eye Patches, so I decided to throw it in anyway. Both contain caffeine and humectants and offer a similar effect. The under eye patches are quicker and offer instant gratification, while the eye serum is one for the long term results with added peptides.
It is totally justified to own both, if you ask me!

Yes.
Should I finish the pot, that is. My late nights are few these days, so using them 30 times poses quite a challenge for me!
Who do I recommend it to?
If you are into quick fixes, pampering that allows you to carry on with your day and lean towards puffiness around the eyes, these are a great addition to your skincare arsenal.
Lack of sleep, long hours staring at the computer screen – there are more than enough reasons why you might reach for them on the regular.
