Foundation Review L´Oréal Infallible 24 hr Matte foundation

Sometimes it is easy to forget why we all started our blogs.

And I say “we” and “all” for writing, I don’t need anyone to point out that people start blogs for different reasons.

I know that. But would you read sentences like: “…to forget why approximately 57% of us started to blog, based on stats from the year 2016.”?

Yeah, me neither.

So, again: Sometimes it is easy to forget why we all started our blogs. Between collaborations, dreaming of going full time and algorithm changes we loose sight of what is always there: The opportunity to share our passion with likeminded people. And passing recommendations.

The foundation reviewed today was 100% enabled by Carol in a Page (who sadly barely has time to blog herself these days), and I will forward the favor and share my thoughts of the L´Oréal Infallible 24 hr Matte foundation.

Or the L´Oréal Indéfectible 24 hr Matte foundation. Depending where you live.

The Claims

A matte result that lasts up to 24 hours. Clinically proven; waterproof, steamproof. All the comfort, none of the shine. Perfect coverage. No cakey effect. Easy to apply, enriched with perlite technology, and reduces the appearance of shine up to 24 hours.

The Facts

It comes in a plastic squeeze tube bottle that contains 35 ml, is easy to control, convenient for traveling and won’t shatter on your bathroom floor when dropped (been there). You can get it for 10,95 € online here.

Sadly  in Germany there are only four shades available of which the lightest, 12 Natural Rose, is still a little dark for me (I mix it with my The Body Shop Lightening Drops, Review).

On the UK website you can get one lighter shade, 10 Porcelain, darker skin tones are not catered to.

The Application

Your fingers, brushes, sponges – everything will work just fine. But for me, the BeautyBlender is hands down (ha!) the best way to apply it. The coverage is better when applied with a dense brush, but it can look a little cakey then, and when applied with your fingers… Well, it IS at least water resistant.

The Finish

When I think of matte, I think of a powdered down face that by no means could pass as natural. I grew up in the 80s, and I still love this finish.

This foundation is not that kind of matte. It is a modern matte, a natural looking matte that still manages to look like skin. Just matte skin.

Over the course of the day, my natural oils come through. But even after four hours, the breaking point with many foundations for me, this one is still dewy in a nice way. At the end of my day, at the ten hours mark, it will be dewy all over, but never in this whole time I will look greasy, not even in my t-zone.

The Coverage

I didn’t mention that before: You really just need a small amount for your whole face. And that small amount, one layer, will offer a solid medium coverage. For the areas I need more, I´ll apply and extra layer, building it up to a full(-ish) coverage that covers even acne scars.

The Feeling

If everything I mentioned above made you feel like scratching your face, you are probably not alone. But this foundation, despite being matte and pigmented, is very, very lightweight. It feels like barely any product on the face, leaves no tackiness behind and does not transfer when touched.

The Weartime

I didn´t test the 24 hours. I never wear foundation that long. But I wore it for 10 hours plus while working in the garden and running around the house, and for the majority of the time the foundation looked flawless. I noticed the first signs of fading at the 8 hour mark, which could have been a little later if I had paired it with powder, primer and setting spray like I usually do.

The Skintypes

The foundation didn’t enhance any texture I had, so I think it would work even on dry skins, but as they tend to prefer a more dewy finish, I´ll leave it to: Recommended for normal, combination and oily skins.

The Final Verdict

I don’t think I need to write much here, you will have guessed by now that I adore this foundation. It is my go to for office days and has replaced my Estée Lauder Double Wear (Review) in my filming kit.
