essence #instaperfect Foundation Review

To be honest, I almost didn´t buy this foundation because of the name. I mean, #instaperfect?

That sums up everything I do NOT stand for: the hashtag-life, Instagram makeup, even perfection isn´t something I can relate to.

But the claims… The siren song of words like matte, flawless and buildable coverage was strong.

So Instagram Makeup aside, today I am here to show you how the essence #instaperfect foundation wears on mature and oily skin.

First the video, complete with close ups of my skin to get a good impression, then all Information, as always, written down below.

The Claims

The make-up in a practical drop-packaging ensures a matte and flawless complexion. The liquid texture is waterproof and the coverage is buildable drop-by-drop. Nine different shades can be mixed and matched to create the perfect colour for all skin types and are sure to make all girls #instaperfect.

The Facts

The foundation looks small, but contains 30 ml and retails for 4,49 € here.

It comes in a plastic dropper bottle, neither instagrammable nor sophisticated, but very travel friendly.

Silicones feature heavy in the ingredient list and the added bees wax makes the formula not suitable for vegans. It has a strong perfumy scent due to the added fragrance that thankfully doesn´t linger on the skin.

Right now there are nine shades available, and while pale skin is spoilt for choice (I picked 030 and it is a little too light for me) I am not sure how well the selection for deeper skin tones will be, the shades seem to be more medium than really deep.

The Application

Depending on the coverage you want I recommend either your fingers for a lighter coverage or a brush if you plan on building it up. When applied with a Beautyblender the foundation can get cakey.

The Finish

Absolutely not matte. Directly after application I´d go with natural which quickly moves into dewy and gets shiny on me by midday. Even with a mattifying primer and powder it never looks matte, at least not on my skin, so depending on your skin type I´d call it natural to dewy.

The Coverage

One layer offers light to medium coverage, three layers will build it up to full. Building it up doesn´t disrupt the layers underneath and, when done with a brush, doesn´t cake up either.

The Feeling

Despite being full coverage, the foundation feels lightweight and slightly hydrating on the skin.

The Weartime

I have worn the foundation for ten hours straight and it held up very well. It didn´t break up in my oils parts, didn´t settle into my lines and didn´t emphasize any dry patches.

While the coverage was still mostly there, it had started to disappear around my chin and jaw line (basically where I touch my face the most) at the seven hour mark, but it did so gracefully and without getting patchy.

The Skintypes

Despite the claims I would recommend this foundation for all skin types. If you are very oily, you might struggle with shine and if you are very dry, make sure to wear a hydrating primer, but the natural to dewy finish should work on almost everyone.

The Final Verdict

While my hopes for a really matte drugstore foundation were disappointed, it is still a product I will reach for in winter, when a little more dewiness is welcome and my current favorite, the L´Oréal Infallible 24 hours matte (Review) is a smidgen to dark.
