Benefit Roller Lash Mascara – Is marriage hard work?

Recently a blogger I have been following for a long time now (say Hi to Melissa here) did a Q&A. She went through all the questions at lightning speed, only briefly touching the one I am going to build my blogpost around: “How do you keep a long term relationship happy?”

A little background information here: Melissa married her first love and they are still crazy about each other. And as someone that believes that a happy relationship requires constant effort, her answer was quite a surprise for me. She said (rephrased): “I don´t believe you should have to work hard to keep a relationship happy. It should simply be that way.”

Now I am curious to hear what you think about that topic: Is a long lasting and happy relationship hard work or is it a sign that you are in the wrong relationship? I am pretty sure that at least for me work is required, but maybe I am just hard to get along with?

And yes, I can totally see Mr. Loca using that sentence against me in our next argument. Good thing he doesn´t read my blog!

But even if I believe in working for my relationship, there is one thing that I want to be just perfect, no effort required: My mascara. And sadly Benefit Roller Lash mascara was a little bit of a letdown in that department.

My thoughts

I want volume over length (preferably both though), the blackest black I can get, no smudging and no clumping. Basically lashes that look like falsies while still looking like my own. Wondering why it is hard work to be in a relationship with me? Nah, I guess you get it now.

As you will be able to tell from the pictures below, Benefit Roller Lash does not tick all the boxes. It is a deep black, does not budge on my eyes and it adds a very nice length to my lashes. Now isn´t that enough, you greedy woman? I can hear you ask.

No. It actually isn’t. Priced 28 € on the website here, it is not your average drugstore bargain, and if I pay more, I want more.

I want to be able to build it up for example, to adjust the dose of drama based on my daily drama desire (which is, according to my husband, quite high). But once I apply more than one coat, it gets clumpy and spiky. Spiky in a way that makes me look as if I have only a few lashes with sparse gaps in between, which, I assure you, is not the case.

Can I make it work? Absolutely. I layer it over a mascara with good separating qualities for added length, I use a lash comb and carefully separate the lashes again after application, and it is wearable..

But do I want to make it work? No. Mascara is not marriage. I expect it to work early in the morning, without the need to be mindful and considerate, without the need for compromise!

So on goes the hunt for the one mascara, while, all teasing aside, I have found the one for marriage already.
